Upon completion of this course the learner
will be able to:
- Discuss the scope of the problem of child abuse.
- Identify the legal definitions of categories of child
abuse in Iowa.
- Describe possible indicators, physical and behavioral,
of the categories of child abuse.
- Describe the perpetrators of child abuse and maltreatment/neglect.
- Evaluate situations to determine if a report of child
abuse should be made.
- State the criteria for reporting the categories of child
abuse.
- Describe the reporting procedure.
- Discuss the process that the Department of Human Services
uses to evaluation whether or not child abuse occurred.
- Explore possible outcomes and services for cases of child
abuse.
- State how the Iowa Safe Haven for Newborns law impacts
mandated reports.
